On July 31, according to media reports, Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD plans to enter the Canadian automobile market. BYD has started selling passenger electric vehicles in Canada.
Previously reported that in response to the rapid rise of China's electric vehicle industry, the U.S. government has taken measures to impose 100% tariffs on imported electric vehicles from China, and has taken other measures to encourage the localization and friendly outsourcing of electric vehicle-related manufacturing industries. , Canada is also considering following the United States and the European Union in imposing similar tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.
Without direct access to the U.S. market, Chinese electric car companies may seek to take a detour into one of the world's largest auto markets. Auto industry analysts say that could mean establishing operations in Mexico and Canada.
It is worth noting that BYD has already made plans in the North American market. It has a factory in California, USA, that produces electric buses and trucks. In Mexico, BYD sells passenger cars including the plug-in hybrid pickup truck "Shark". However, BYD's North America president said earlier this year that the company has no current plans to enter the U.S. passenger car market.
