Recently, it was learned from relevant channels that Volkswagen of Germany announced that due to the sharp decline in market demand for high-end electric vehicles, it may consider closing its Audi factory in Brussels and adjust its profit margin target for this year. It is reported that due to the sharp drop in demand for the Q8 e-tron, the company is considering a complete suspension of production. An informed source revealed that the Q8 e-tron may be discontinued in 2025.
The Audi Brussels plant produced about 50,000 vehicles last year, but it also faces "long-term structural challenges," including difficulty in changing its layout due to its proximity to the city and high logistics costs. Audi will now enter a consultation process to find alternatives, and said in a statement that if no alternative is ultimately found, the plant may cease operations.
Volkswagen noted that the costs of finding alternative uses for or closing the Brussels plant, as well as other unplanned expenses, are expected to have an impact of up to 2.6 billion euros in the 2024 fiscal year. As a result, Volkswagen adjusted its operating return forecast to 6.5%-7% from 7%-7.5%.
